Leni Riefenstahl

(Leni Riefensthal filming "Olympia" in 1936)

Leni Riefenstahl, the extremely controversial filmmaker died this Monday at the age of 101. I have really mixed feelings about her. On the one hand, you can see that she was an extremely gifted and ambitious woman who made a mark in film history. Many of her contributions to film making are seen today: crane shots, slow motion, and extreme camera angles. She even continued to work up until her death. However, you cannot ignore her ties with Hitler that forever tarnished her reputation and ended her film career. A few links below shed light on her controversial life.
