Walking in San Francisco
This morning I found an interesting referrer in my stats from Mapper of Doom, which shows survey photos of cities with overlays of geourl info from people who have registered their locations with GeoURL. This is a great way to find your neighbors websites.
While I was checking out the folks in my neighborhood, I found Walking in San Francisco: Photographs and commentary from a pedestrian perspective. Every month, Jeff Luszcz presents a photo of a troublesome intersection for pedestrians and points out the problems with that area. Jeff hasn't updated since June, and I'm sure that he's busy like everyone else. I'm looking forward to more entries from Jeff.
Through Jeff's site, I found Walk San Francisco, an organization that's tries to raise awareness of pedestrian rights. Did you know that 41% of traffic fatalities in San Francisco are pedestrians? Since I don't drive anymore or ride a bike, I walk quite a bit when I'm not riding BART, Muni, or Caltrain. I can't tell you how many times people have almost run me over, so I'm glad to hear that someone's trying to remind people to slow down. Walk SF also offers some interesting walking tours.
On the flip side, what would life in a walking city (literally) would be like?
