This Week's Recommended Films

It Was a Wonderful Life

it-was-a-wonderful-life.jpgIt sounds like a cliche, but many people are one paycheck away from being homeless. This film shows the invisible homeless--women who find themselves living in their cars or on the street following divorce, illness, and chronic unemployment. Truly sad yet though-provoking.

Broken Flowers

broken-flowers.jpg The latest from direct Jim Jarmusch and starring the always funny Bill Murray as Don Johnston, a chronically single man looking for the son he never knew that he had. There's a lonely and isolated quality to Bill Murray's character that's a bit reminiscent of his character in Lost in Translation. Broken Flowers was the winner of the Grand Prix award at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

The Legend of Leigh Bowery

leigh-bowery.jpgLeigh Bowery was an amazing costume designer, performance artist, host of London's infamous club Taboo, had the biggest and raunchiest attitude, and even sat as a model for artist Lucian Freud. This documentary includes interviews with Boy George (who's currently ripping off Bowery's style), Bella Freud, Sophie Fiennes (yes, Ralph's sister), and choreographer Michael Clark.
